Commando attack vs 21st Panzer

I met with Steve Parillo at Legions Hobbies for a 1695 pts FoW game with my Late War Commando (Beaches with C3rd) forces taking on a 21st Panzer Division tank army. Steve’s version of events can be found here on his blog Huzzah! We rolled up “Fighting Withdrawal” for the mission.

IMG_4151Here Steve does his “UberGerman” pose on his side of the battlefield. I chose a night attack as the terrain had lots of long sight lines which would favor the German tanks and 88. The night vision restrictions would crimp my artillery observers, so I took the ground observer for the naval artillery. I hoped to move close under cover of darkness to have a chance against all the armor. The yellow pipe cleaners mark our set-up areas. The terrain featured mainly fields which provided some cover and woods. A small town anchored Steve’s right and center.

The objectives are also seen in the picture. One is near the left-most pipe cleaner in the woods. One is to the rear of the church. The last is in the small woods near Steve.
